BYOB – Build Your Own Birchbox

I am the Birchbox subscriber that cannot get enough!! Even with boxes on the way, I always take the time to BYOB (Build Your Own Birchbox) when passing the Soho oasis. The BYOB station has changed dramatically, since you can grab your own samples without someone assisting you, plus a mens BYOB. I went all out – even surprised my boyfriend with his own box filled with shaving goodies and whiskey stones. For my box, I picked samples I have been waiting to try! Luckily, the company now lets you substitute certain categories for others (hint – skip the fragrance and go for the skin or hair care).

My personalized Birchbox wasn’t my only purchase that day… I decided to try a Korean product called Peripera Ah Much Real My Cushion Blusher in Happy Coral (for more Korean beauty, check out my Face Shop post). The sponge applicator is perfect for an on-the-go look to create glowing cheeks with a peachy finish.

Have you ever done the BYOB? What do you think of monthly subscriptions?

Pride: Satisfaction for an Achievement

Happy Fourth of July! Unfortunately, it is pouring rain in New York… the whole shabam – thunder, dark skies, rain, puddles, wind. While stuck inside, I am thinking about the pride we have for our country, our relationships, and our selves. It seems to be contagious and of course, social media proves it!

Pride Week: Holy rainbows – every organization that supports human rights celebrated Pride Week in someway. Many created store fronts decked out in color. Many created new products to showcase pride. Many created images just for social media and sharing. I saw quite a bit on my news feeds from my favorite companies – Baked by Melissa, Julep, LUSH Cosmetics, Teen Vogue.

Baked by Melissa flag #lilly5x5

4th of July: There have been many, many, many Fourth of July posts – from newscasters to the usual #lilly5x5. Here are two of my favorites that scream independence, USA, and patriotic shades. I adore how companies take their brand or product and turn it into something universally recognizable. The USA radiates pride on this day! A whole bunch of PRIDE!

Here is my recent go USA face showcasing my country pride as I stand right near the edge of Niagara Falls. What a thrilling experience! I would love to see y’all’s PRIDE faces!

Secret Garden

Secret Garden is another bath bomb from the LUSH Mother’s Day range. I believe this product was created a few years back to celebrate spring time. I have never tried it before, so this is a first impression review!

IMG_6583IMG_6586IMG_6587IMG_6588

AROMA: The name gives it away, Secret Garden smells like a floral garden! The main smell is rose. There are three different types of rose ingredients in this product – red rose petals, rose absolute, and rosewood oil. A good floral bath is great once in a while!

COLORS: The outer layer of this bath bomb is so groovy! I love the green with the big pink flower. This layer also is very frothy and creates a layer of bubbles not he top of your tub. Yellow and an array of petals are hidden in the middle. This is the secret garden part! The bath water stays a light, foamy green.

DEBRIS: I love the idea of flower petals in a bath bomb, especially one called Secret Garden, but it does make your tub extra dirty! I always have to rinse out my bath tub after bath bombs with petals, glitter, confetti, etc. I love the baths! The cleaning just is a bit irritating.

INGREDIENTS: The ingredients in Secret Garden include rose absolute, sweet wild orange oil, marigold petals, red rose petals, rosewood oil, gardens extract, and blue mallow flowers. The rest of the ingredients are safe synthetics. This bath product is not vegan.

I would give this product 3 stars out of 5. I like the idea of Secret Garden but it really is just another LUSH floral bath bomb. There is nothing that special about it. Although, if you love to experiment with different LUSH baths, definitely check this one out! It is only available while supplies last after Mother’s Day. Check out this lovely quote from the Secret Garden posted by the Woodlands LUSH store on Facebook!

A LUSH Necessity – The Olive Branch

These next few weeks are going to be CRAZY for me! I will try to blog as much as I can. I have finals, internship work, guests coming to visit, and I am going to FRANCE! I am so excited to go to Europe since I have never been! Anyways, I just finished up a bottle of the LUSH shower gel, The Olive Branch and fell in love all over again.

IMG_4167

AROMA: Olive Branch is one of my favorite LUSH smells. I enjoy the mandarin base with an olive twist! LUSH claims the smell embodies the Mediterranean ocean since it also has a pinch of sea salt in it. I have to agree! This is the perfect shower gel to try if you are in love with citrus infused, natural scents and longing for the beach breeze.

DRY SKIN: This product does well on my dry skin. It does not irritate it or make it drier (which some LUSH soaps can do). I just squirt some on my loofa and enjoy my steamy shower!

SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE: The only downfall about Olive Branch is the consistency. It is pretty runny. The olive oil and the soap get separated. Therefore, it is a good idea to shake up the bottle before use. The picture above is shaken up! Normally, one can see a definite line between the ingredients.

INGREDIENTS: This shower gel has quite a bit of natural ingredients. Some of them are vine leaf infusion, fresh mandarin juice, Fair for Life olive oil, lemon oil, mandarin oil, fine sea salt, and much more! This product is also vegan and is available in three sizes (mine is the 8.4 fl. oz.).

Overall, this is one of my favorite LUSH shower gels! I never get tired of the fabulous smell. I never stop using it when i have a bottle in my shower. I never will stop loving it! I highly recommend this LUSH product.

P.S. – have you heard about the LUSH Kitchen?! You can vote for retired products for them to make on their Facebook page. Check it out here! The only downfall – it is not available in North America. Oh and they also had an Olive Branch Body Lotion! Wish I heard about it in time before they were sold out!

Believe – A Good Word for Easter

Happy Easter everyone! I hope everyone is having a phenomenal day and eating tons of Easter goodies! One of my favorite parts of Easter is to see what everyone is wearing… I am a huge fan of dresses, pastel colors, bright lips, and so on! Easter fashion is pretty great. For this post, I want to do a review on the lip color I wore this Easter from the LUSH Cosmetics Emotional Brilliance line, Believe!

IMG_4684IMG_4685

IMG_4686IMG_4947

COLOR: As you can tell, this is a beautiful pink shade that has a nice coral undertone. LUSH claims that this color is a “raspberry-pink matte.” I semi agree. This lipstick makes your lips quite pink, but not a raspberry shade. I believe it is more of a orange-pink. This color is also considered matte since it does not have any sparkles in it.

LONG-WEAR: Once you put this lipstick on, it takes a while to come off! Super, super long wear. It also stains your lips. So when the color does wear off, the lips are stained pink. It is very pretty. I like to put on a moisturizing lip balm before I apply Believe because it makes the product more like a lipstick rather than a stain.

BELIEVE: Emotional Brillance is an awesome collection that LUSH created. The concept of this make up line is great because rather than being objective and just makeup without any meaning, LUSH has made is subjective. Each product within the collection has a special meaning tied to a characteristic. Obviously, this lip stick is called Believe and insures that “you believe in yourself and you can achieve anything that you desire!”

INGREDIENTS: The ingredients in this lipstick are primarily safe synthetics. Although, there are a few natural products. These are jojoba oil, candelilla rose wax, and rose wax. All of the Emotional Brilliance lipsticks have these three natural ingredients I believe.

Have you tried any of the Emotional Brilliance make up products from LUSH? Here is an awesome store set up of the Emotional Brilliance line in the LUSH Lexington store in NYC:

My New Favorite LUSH Store: Lexington Ave.

Good morning LUSHies! It is surprisingly a very cold spring day here in NY! There is even frost on the ground… in April! I wanted to finish off my Easter posts and reviews with a haul from the LUSH Lexington Ave. store and Spa location in NYC! This has to be my new go-to LUSH store because I love the atmosphere, the Spa, and all of the lovely sales associates! Every time I am in the city I go to this LUSH and then get a gluten free cupcake from Sprinkles (they are so so so delicious)!

Last time I went to this LUSH store, I went with my friend Meghan and we got our Emotional Brilliance color readings done! They were literally spot on! The close up of the color reading was mine. So to get a color reading, you close your eyes and they spin the wheel. Then, you pick out the first three colors that catch your eyes. I got Dynamic (I already own eyeliner!), Control and Feeling Secure! These characteristics really describe me! Meghan also picked three characteristics that described her! The LUSHie sales associate who did our color readings was phenomenal! She really knew what she was talking about.

LUSH Lexington Haul: So after about a half our hanging out in the store, I finally purchased my goodies I picked out! I did not want to go to over board (my bath room is currently exploding with LUSH)! But I wanted to pick up a few products that I have not yet tried. I also got some bath goodies for my mom that are not included in this haul. I got her four Lord of Misrule (her favorite), Brightside Bubble Bar, and the Golden Egg.

IMG_6195

  • Fresh Farmacy Cleanser
  • Control Eyeliner – I could not pass this up because it is a perfect adjective that describes my personality. It is also a lovely dark blue liner.
  • Seanik Solid Shampoo Bar
  • Psychedelic Summer Knot Wrap – this is the most COLORFUL knot wrap I have seen! This is actually my first knot wrap purchase. I have it hanging in my room!
  • Carrot Soap
    • AROMA: The smell of this soap is phenomenal. It smells great! To me, it reminds me of freshly peeled carrots and V8 juice (very weird, I know). I have enjoyed using this soap in the tub because it is preparing me for spring with a fresh aroma!
    • TEXTURE: I also really like this soap because it lathers fairly well. In fact, this is one of the best lathering soaps that I have gotten from LUSH in a while! I also think it has helped my dry skin a bit.
    • INGREDIENTS: The natural ingredients in this Limited Edition LUSH Easter product are carrot oil, rapeseed oil, bergamot oil, fair trade cocoa butter, and much more! This product is also vegan.
    • FLIMSY: This soap is not very sturdy. I noticed that the slices of it on display in the store were cracked at the top. When I unwrapped mine, it was also cracked above the bunny. I like to have my soap in one cohesive chunk… at least I had a tiny chunk to use at first!

This new LUSH store location in NYC is also receiving a lot of press! Here is just one Facebook post linking to an article about the British, LUSH Spa invasion! Check it out!

The New LUSH Easter Treat: Golden Egg

How many of you LUSHies out there have been listening to all of the rave about the new LUSH Easter product and LUSH invention called Golden Egg? LUSH claims that this bath product is a bath bomb melt, which means it fizzes up like a bath bomb but creates a rich, moisturizing, luxurious texture in your tub like a bath melt! I think it is quite unique… so I was super eager to try it! Here are some pictures of Golden Egg in the tub:

IMG_6101IMG_6102IMG_6104IMG_6106

BOMB/MELT: Like I mentioned in the intro paragraph, this is a bath bomb AND a bath melt! It fizzes when you drop it in the hot water like a bath bomb, but it also releases a ton of moisturizing oils! The bath water then becomes a interesting color and is super oily.

SMELL: LUSH claims this product smells like honey and toffee. I think it smell like honey yogurt! To me, it has an odd dairy aroma (please tell me I am not the only one). But honestly, the smell is not strong at all and is quite relaxing!

WATER COLOR: The bath water turns a highlighter yellow color, which is a tiny downfall. It is pretty unattractive! I wish it was a bit more gold and not as fluorescent. The gold shimmer does help this unattractive yellow and makes the water more gold-ish!

GLITTER: As you can probably tell from the product, it is packed with GLITTER! Like there is a ton of it! It gets everywhere.. all over your hands and once you drain your tub, it is coated with a gold shimmer! But a major plus is that the glitter does NOT stay on your body!

INGREDIENTS: Here are the fresh ingredients in this handmade Bath Bomb Melt: olive oil, fair trade organic cocoa butter, sweet wild orange oil, bergamot oil, cornflour, and much much more! This product is also vegan.

Overall, I actually enjoyed trying out this LUSH product because it is innovative, new and extremely unique! Maybe LUSH will come out with a yearly Bath Bomb Melt if this one is successful! Lets keep our fingers crossed! Now onto some social media about the Golden Egg:

IMG_6185IMG_6075

Both of these posts are from Facebook. The one on the left is from the LUSH Cosmetics Facebook page. This post is raving about Golden Egg (the first bath bomb melt)! The post on the right is from the LUSH Cosmetics Willowbrook Mall page! This post is showing a sneak peak of the LUSH Easter goodies that premiered in stores on March 24! This is a cool post because it highlights a ton of the Easter products!

P.S. – Have you entered the secret message from the LUSH Golden Egg hunt (only USA and Canada, I believe)! Do not miss out! Hurry, hurry because the entries end tonight! You could be one of the ten winners. The rules are here.

LUSH DIY: Mod-Podge Box

Is the rainy Spring weather getting you down? Are you tired of sitting around watching Netflix and eating ice cream? Well… here is a great solution for LUSHies out there: a LUSH craft! Over the past few months I have been working on an awesome LUSH mod-podge box that I want to share!

First, I needed to cut out a ton of LUSH pictures for my mod-podge. I decided to go with the Christmas LUSH Times and the Fall 2013 LUSH Times. After a few days of cutting up the newspaper catalogs, I was left with all of these pictures:

IMG_4498IMG_4499IMG_4500IMG_4497

That is a lot of LUSH pictures right…I wanted to cut out everything from the LUSH catalogs that was either a product I have used or pictures that made me smile (aka – everything in the LUSH catalog)! After I had everything cut out, I searched my room for a box that I was not to crazy about! P.S. – you can use basically any box.. like a shoe box, packaging box, etc. Here is the box I picked:

IMG_4501

So from there I mod-podged the box! I did not do the insides because that would be impractical if I wanted to store stuff in the box (which I do). So I started with the white bottom and did the edges and bottom. I then let that piece dry and moved to the top lid where I covered the top and the edges. It took a long time to dry… and since I am not a mod-podge pro, I was left with a few bumps. But overall, I think the box turned out great! Here is the top and bottom with all of the edges:

IMG_4725IMG_4730

IMG_4728IMG_4727IMG_4726IMG_4729

Oh wow… that was a lot of pictures! Sorry y’all for all of the scrolling! So that box turned out pretty well! What do you think?! Share in the comments! Also, what do you think I store in this box? To find out, you will have to be on the lookout for my second phase of the LUSH DIY box!

Must Try Bath: Lord of Misrule

The LUSH bath bomb, Lord of Misrule has been out for quite a while now! I believe they first showcased in October for the Halloween collection and then have stayed up until now. I do not believe you can order them anymore on the LUSH USA website. Although, a lot of the LUSH store locations around North America still have them in stock for a short period of time! Lord of Misrule is a MUST try LUSH bath! It honestly is one of my favorite bath bombs.

IMG_5359IMG_5369IMG_5372IMG_5374

AROMA: The smell of this bath bomb is phenomenal because it is spicy, sweet, and earthly at once! I love love love the earthy spicy scent. I believe the patchouli in the product makes this mysterious, dark scent! The aroma is also pretty powerful… you can smell it on your skin even when you get out of the bath!

BATH WATER: Lord of Misrule turns your bath water a deep purple (like above). A lot of people say it is like you are bathing in wine! I have to agree… the water is so rich in color and aroma it is a definite treat! Surprisingly, this green bath bomb has an intense center that has purple powder in it! Also, the bubbles in my bath above are not from this bath bomb because I added some bubble bath to the water! I just love my bubbles!

INSPIRATION: This bath bomb is based off of the ruler for the Pagan Feast of Fools. Like I said above, the green layer covers the wine colored center which has popping candies in it that pop and fizz throughout your bath! You can actually hear these candies popping to… it is very similar to eating pop rocks! By the way, you cannot physically feel the pop rocks popping, therefore, it does not hurt! You just can hear them!

LIMITED EDITION: My introduction for this post also talked about how this product first appeared in the LUSH Halloween collection and has been available since. Recently though, LUSH USA just took them off line. Although, many of the LUSH store locations still have a few left! Go stock up (I recently bought five of them at the LUSH on Lexington Ave., NYC)!

INGREDIENTS: This bath bomb has many ingredients that make it truly unique! These are the fair trade vanilla absolute, cream of tartar, popping candy, black pepper oil, patchouli oil, gardenia extract and so much more!

If you have tried Lord of Misrule, share your experience with me! Hopefully, LUSH sees how positive the feedback is for this product and they bring it back permanently!

Latest LUSH Social Favorites

Hello all! In honor of @lushcosmetics tweeting me back yesterday, I decided it was time for my latest LUSH social media favorites! All of these posts are from different LUSH stores/countries and outlets. I like to follow the LUSH stores that I have been too! Here are my favorites:

Post #1: Yes… I do follow LUSH Australia on Facebook! Who wouldn’t follow them?! I like to see how their social differs from North Americas. They include a lot more edited pictures with text on them in their posts. They still utilize the usual LUSH digital style… but with an Australian twist! You can follow and find their page here.

Post #2:  This picture was “re-grammed” from the Memorial City LUSH onto the @lushcosmetics Instagram. I have been to this location numerous times! It is one of the LUSH and Macy’s collaboration. The hashtag is what makes this post #livingtheLUSHlife! I am going to use this more often!

Post #3: I really really love this post. It is so LUSH like because it is black and white, quirky, happy, and funny! Basically, all of the adjectives that fit the LUSH characteristic. This post is celebrating the opening of the LUSH Cosmetics Woodland Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma!

Post #4: LUSH broke the record of most lip prints! Do y’all remember this LUSH campaign last Valentines?! Well it looks like they hit a benchmark! It is awesome when companies break records because it is very newsworthy. I found this on the @lushcosmetics Instagram!

IMG_5791

Post #5: This is a Facebook post from the LUSH Cosmetics Market Street location in The Woodlands, Texas! I was just here last week (haul is coming soon)!! I love this location because it is very spacious which makes it the perfect LUSH for parties!!! One day, I would love to have a part at a LUSH!
