LUSH Cosmetics Summer Events

LUSH Cosmetics advertised 2 events so far this summer. The first was the #LUSH200 store opening in North America. The second is the #finfree movement. Here are some highlights from each:

The #LUSH200 details: The 200th LUSH Cosmetics store has officially opened in North America! LUSH Cosmetics in Yorkdale Shopping Centre located in Toronto, Canada is the lucky store! LUSH celebrated this event with giving out $200 gift cards across North America, creating fresh batches of products in store, having a dance party with a well renowned DJ, and even some beauty bloggers made an appearance. Did you win a gift card or participate in any of the #LUSH200 events?!

The #finfree movement has officially begun. LUSH partnered with Shark Week on Discover Channel and the finfree movement to help stop shark killings. Shark fin soup is a popular dish in many Asian countries that requires fins from sharks. The #finfree movement is here to stop these killings and protect sharks all around the world. You can sign the petition today here and buy the Shark Fin Soap (limited edition) from LUSH to stand with the #finfree movement!

Granny Takes A Dip Bath Bomb

What is that odd new bath bomb LUSH Cosmetics invented? Oh yes, Granny Takes A Dip! A disk shape with four rings looks unusual compared to other sphere bath bombs. It reminds me of tree rings.

AROMA: I immediately smell Sweet Tarts candy when sniffing Granny Takes A Dip. It has a sweet punch but also a sour, citrus-y punch. It is a nice escape from a strong floral, sweet, or organic scent. It truly is a unique aroma compared to usual LUSH smells.

EFFECTS: Granny Takes A Dip decides to sit quietly in the bath water. It does not fizz or twirl. It does not explode with glitter or confetti. Instead, it chills while floating around in the same path. I liked the idea of the four colors. But I did not enjoy my murky purple bath water once it fizzed out.

INGREDIENTS: Like all bath bombs, this product contains a variety of safe synthetics and a hint of natural products – black pepper oil, lemon oil (very strong), ginger oil, and gardenia extract. Granny Takes A Dip is NOT vegan.

UNIQUE SHAPE: LUSH really played on this new shape. They used it in store fronts and even as a graphic in their new catalog – Fresh Matters. My friend, Allie Zoll, visited Ireland and took a picture of the store front above. I also saw a similar look in a LUSH while exploring France. Such a cool idea! The graphic from the catalog showcases how long each LUSH product lasts without using the usual and expected bar graph or pie chart.

What do you think of Granny Takes A Dip? Do you think it is worth all of the hype? Will the new LUSH products be able to make it on a “Best Sellers” list?

“Our Values are in Our Products” – LUSH Campaign

This month LUSH is celebrating their company values with a beautiful digital campaign. You have probably seen it if you were on the LUSH USA website recently:

Screen Shot 2014-06-05 at 9.36.15 PMScreen Shot 2014-06-05 at 9.36.22 PMScreen Shot 2014-06-09 at 9.22.26 PM

I adore the image that highlights products and values. This is a very creative campaign that really strikes the core concepts and objectives of LUSH. I will be taking my favorite products, writing a mini review, and talking about how they fit into a certain value based off of this image:

NAKED!: Ultimate Shine Solid Shampoo is the perfect NAKED product example since it does not have any packaging or waste attached to it. Once it is used up, it is GONE! No debris. I really enjoy Ultimate Shine because of its simple but elegant aroma. This bar is packed with ylang ylang oil, violet leaf absolute, and gardenia extract. Plus, it has a little shimmer!

100% VEGETARIAN: Honey I Washed The Kids Soap is a LUSH trademark. It smells wonderful, lathers incredibly, and hydrates. The main ingredients are beeswax, sweet wild orange oil, aloe vera extract, and bergamot oil. All LUSH products are 100% vegetarian because they avoid anything that relies on animal manufacturing. LUSH is especially proud of the glycerin in their soaps since it is from American soy beans and NOT animal fat.

FRESHEST COSMETICS: As you can tell by now, LUSH cares about using ethical and environmentally friendly ingredients. But they also care about fresh cosmetics. Most LUSH products have an expiration date because they are free of preservatives and other chemicals that help store products. The freshest LUSH products are the famous face masks. Love Lettuce is one I used recently that contains honey, almond oil, ground almond shells, ground almonds, and lavender oil (no lettuce surprisingly). Face masks are so fresh they need to be stored in a refrigerator!

FIGHTING ANIMAL TESTING: LUSH has many campaigns, awards, and activities for fighting against animal testing. Obviously, LUSH products are not animal tested nor do they use ingredients that harm animals. They use cell testing and 3D human skin models to determine if a product is safe. The Emotional Brilliance makeup line LUSH developed includes eye liner, lipsticks, mascara, eyeshadows, and skin tints that are 100% LUSH acceptable. Wise is a deep olive eyeliner from this collection.

HANDMADE: All LUSH products are handmade with love by real people. They even put stickers on the back of products saying who it was made by and when. Each bath bomb, melt, and bubble bar are unique. Bathos is a bubble bar I used from the Retro Collection that contains violet leaf absolute, rose absolute, jasmine absolute, and ylang ylang oil. It makes a perfect bubble bath!

IMG_5890IMG_5891

ETHICAL BUYING: LUSH makes sure their suppliers have similar values such as no animal testing, protecting the environment, and creating a positive impact. They buy ingredients from small scale producers rather than mass producers. The Ro’s Argon Body Conditioner is the example LUSH used and the example I will use. This is a lovely product that smells of luxurious roses and conditions your body. The rose oil is from Turkey and the capuacu butter is from Brazil.

A LUSH Necessity – The Olive Branch

These next few weeks are going to be CRAZY for me! I will try to blog as much as I can. I have finals, internship work, guests coming to visit, and I am going to FRANCE! I am so excited to go to Europe since I have never been! Anyways, I just finished up a bottle of the LUSH shower gel, The Olive Branch and fell in love all over again.

IMG_4167

AROMA: Olive Branch is one of my favorite LUSH smells. I enjoy the mandarin base with an olive twist! LUSH claims the smell embodies the Mediterranean ocean since it also has a pinch of sea salt in it. I have to agree! This is the perfect shower gel to try if you are in love with citrus infused, natural scents and longing for the beach breeze.

DRY SKIN: This product does well on my dry skin. It does not irritate it or make it drier (which some LUSH soaps can do). I just squirt some on my loofa and enjoy my steamy shower!

SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE: The only downfall about Olive Branch is the consistency. It is pretty runny. The olive oil and the soap get separated. Therefore, it is a good idea to shake up the bottle before use. The picture above is shaken up! Normally, one can see a definite line between the ingredients.

INGREDIENTS: This shower gel has quite a bit of natural ingredients. Some of them are vine leaf infusion, fresh mandarin juice, Fair for Life olive oil, lemon oil, mandarin oil, fine sea salt, and much more! This product is also vegan and is available in three sizes (mine is the 8.4 fl. oz.).

Overall, this is one of my favorite LUSH shower gels! I never get tired of the fabulous smell. I never stop using it when i have a bottle in my shower. I never will stop loving it! I highly recommend this LUSH product.

P.S. – have you heard about the LUSH Kitchen?! You can vote for retired products for them to make on their Facebook page. Check it out here! The only downfall – it is not available in North America. Oh and they also had an Olive Branch Body Lotion! Wish I heard about it in time before they were sold out!

Rose Explosion + Bath Friends

Rose bath products are always very popular. LUSH makes quite a few. They have Rose Jam and Rose Queen! These bath products are loaded with rose petals, rose oils, and rose absolute! I will be reviewing the Rose Queen bath bomb for this post!

IMG_5729IMG_5730

IMG_5732IMG_5733

AROMA: Once Rose Queen has dissolved, the bath water is very floral and rose-y. The smell is similar to having over a dozen roses blooming throughout your house. It is STRONG! If you are not a rose or floral fan, do not get this bath bomb. I am a fan of rose, so I love this bath bomb! My mom is also a floral freak and adores this bath.

SIZE: Rose Queen is a small bath bomb compared to most of the other ones LUSH creates. This probably has to do with the strong, overwhelming rose smell. There is not enough product to turn your bath water any significant color besides a very light pink.

DEBRIS: As you can see in the picture on the bottom right, this bath bomb has a collection of flowers in the middle of it! I enjoy little surprises like this in my bath. But a surprise, means lots of debris. Rose Queen especially had a lot of petals and flower parts floating around.

INGREDIENTS: Rose Queen is composed of rose absolute, golden needle lily petals (picture), amaranth flowers, apple blossom, blue mallow flowers, and larkspur flowers. The ingredients show how floral this bath bomb is in the tub! SUPER FLORAL! This product also has a few safe synthetics and it is vegan.

Overall, I suggest Rose Queen for only the LUSHies or bath lovers who have a desire to soak in petals and breath in roses! It does make for a nice Summer and Spring bath.

I am not a huge rubber duck fan, but I do have two little ducks that I put in my tub sometimes. I am a HUGE cat fan. So these ducks are perfect 😉 !

What is in my LUSH DIY box?!

Hello all! So I recently just posted about the LUSH craft I completed a while ago. It is a LUSH DIY mod-podge box! And I am absolutely in love with it… I promised in the bottom of that post that I would show you what I keep in that box! This is going to be a blog post about my admiration for the designs, layouts, and groovy packaging LUSH has. First though, I keep all of my LUSH keepsakes in my box! Here is a picture inside my LUSH DIY craft:

IMG_5476

I have a bunch of stuff in here. Some of the goodies include:

  • LUSH product bags: I love collecting these… I at least have over 50 – some of the different designs are pictured below.I also keep some of the soap wrapping they use to protect the soap! I think the paper is awesome and I try to reuse it!

IMG_4724

IMG_4641

  • LUSH gift tags: Have you ever gotten a LUSH gift? They come with adorable mini catalogs and beautiful tags! I seriously adore the designs on these catalogs. Here are some of my favorite layouts:

IMG_4720IMG_4721IMG_4723

  • LUSH catalogs:  I know I have more than 3 in this box! All from different seasons.
  • LUSH knot wrap:  my mom got me an adorable, limited edition LUSH knot wrap! I love it! That is also pictured below.

IMG_5477

  • LUSH bath bomb leftovers: A lot of the LUSH bath products have flowers or paper in them. I like to dry some of the whole flowers out (the picture of the flowers below are from the Rose Queen Bath Bomb) and keep some of the Boom! and Bang! papers from the Blackberry and Fizzbanger bath bomb! They are just to good and LUSH like to throw away.

IMG_5733

  • LUSH pamphlets:  I also have a whole bunch of LUSH part brochures, cards, and postcards in here.. I cannot get enough of them! I enjoy looking at the design. I am a true paper hoarder!

Do you have a stash somewhere of LUSH goodies?!?! Or am I the only one who wants to keep every little thing and cherish them from my LUSH products?! Share with me your LUSH obsessions below!

LUSH DIY: Mod-Podge Box

Is the rainy Spring weather getting you down? Are you tired of sitting around watching Netflix and eating ice cream? Well… here is a great solution for LUSHies out there: a LUSH craft! Over the past few months I have been working on an awesome LUSH mod-podge box that I want to share!

First, I needed to cut out a ton of LUSH pictures for my mod-podge. I decided to go with the Christmas LUSH Times and the Fall 2013 LUSH Times. After a few days of cutting up the newspaper catalogs, I was left with all of these pictures:

IMG_4498IMG_4499IMG_4500IMG_4497

That is a lot of LUSH pictures right…I wanted to cut out everything from the LUSH catalogs that was either a product I have used or pictures that made me smile (aka – everything in the LUSH catalog)! After I had everything cut out, I searched my room for a box that I was not to crazy about! P.S. – you can use basically any box.. like a shoe box, packaging box, etc. Here is the box I picked:

IMG_4501

So from there I mod-podged the box! I did not do the insides because that would be impractical if I wanted to store stuff in the box (which I do). So I started with the white bottom and did the edges and bottom. I then let that piece dry and moved to the top lid where I covered the top and the edges. It took a long time to dry… and since I am not a mod-podge pro, I was left with a few bumps. But overall, I think the box turned out great! Here is the top and bottom with all of the edges:

IMG_4725IMG_4730

IMG_4728IMG_4727IMG_4726IMG_4729

Oh wow… that was a lot of pictures! Sorry y’all for all of the scrolling! So that box turned out pretty well! What do you think?! Share in the comments! Also, what do you think I store in this box? To find out, you will have to be on the lookout for my second phase of the LUSH DIY box!

My First LUSH Product: Buffy

I am sure most of you can remember your first LUSH product?! Was it a solid shampoo to try something new and sustainable? Was it a shower jelly to try the unbelievable? Or was it simply a lotion to sooth your irritated skin? Your first LUSH product is a great one. I can still vividly remember walking into LUSH and looking at all the products in confusion… wondering which one I should try! Well that product that I ended up picking was Buffy Body Butter! The pictures below are of my recently used Buffy! Sorry that it is not a picture of a new bar!

IMG_3755IMG_3758

THE PERFECT COMBO: Exfoliating and moisturizing in one bar… this is awesome! Buffy is  great for exfoliating problem skin since it has ground beans in it. Other than this quality, Buffy is an awesome moisturizer! It hydrates your skin very very well. The ingredients that adds to this hydrating feature is cocoa and shea butter. If you exfoliate your skin every few weeks, this product is a must because it takes down your shower time, does not have any packaging, and is at a great price!

LITTLE ROUGH: Although, Buffy is pretty rough sometimes; especially during the first few uses! If you are not up for intense exfoliation, this body bar from LUSH might not be the right one for you. Alternatives are You Snap The Whip and King of Skin (which I have already reviewed).

SMELL: The aroma of this product is perfect for calming, warm showers. The many butters in the product make it serene and fresh. The lavender oil in the butter also creates a relaxing feel.

SIZE: Buffy is the only body butter from LUSH that is offered in two different sizes. There is a large size (7 oz.) which lasts about a month in the shower that is $22.95. The smaller size is 3.3 oz. and lasts about two weeks. This one is priced at $11.95. I have owned both sizes. I would start with the small and see how much you like the product and then go on from there! I like to switch up body butters month to month… so I have been purchasing the small size recently! The body butters also last a lot longer if they are protected from water and moisture. Thus, the square tin is a great purchase and can be used for future LUSH products!

INGREDIENTS: I have already mentioned a few of the ingredients in Buffy throughout this post… but here are all of the fresh, cruelty free ingredients: cocoa butter, shea butter, lavender oil, ground rice, ground almonds, ground aduki beans, and lemon oil! This product is seriously packed with some awesome goodies! Plus, it is Vegan!

What do you think about Buffy?! Is it a popular LUSH first?

LUSH Times – Spring 2014

Hello all! I am sorry again for posting late today… tomorrow I go back to school for the first time since Spring Break! I am excited to get back into my usual, weekly routine. Today, I wanted to write a review and make a shout out to the LUSH designers for an awesome LUSH TIMES! Here are the front and back covers of the new LUSH catalog for 2014:

IMG_5480IMG_5479

Speaking of the LUSH Spring Collection… mine just came in the mail and I used the Golden Egg tonight in my bath! It was PHENOMENAL! Be on the look out for that haul and review coming soon! This catalog also came out around the time the Valentines Collection and #signoflove media campaign started. Here were my three favorite Valentine layouts:

IMG_5481IMG_5483IMG_5482

Overall, I really loved this LUSH Times! It was not much different from the Fall 2013 LUSH Times. This one appeared in stores on February 1st! The day I went to the LUSH Spa! I saw them setting them out and knew I had to grab one! Have you looked at this LUSH Times yet?!
