Granny Takes A Dip Bath Bomb

What is that odd new bath bomb LUSH Cosmetics invented? Oh yes, Granny Takes A Dip! A disk shape with four rings looks unusual compared to other sphere bath bombs. It reminds me of tree rings.

AROMA: I immediately smell Sweet Tarts candy when sniffing Granny Takes A Dip. It has a sweet punch but also a sour, citrus-y punch. It is a nice escape from a strong floral, sweet, or organic scent. It truly is a unique aroma compared to usual LUSH smells.

EFFECTS: Granny Takes A Dip decides to sit quietly in the bath water. It does not fizz or twirl. It does not explode with glitter or confetti. Instead, it chills while floating around in the same path. I liked the idea of the four colors. But I did not enjoy my murky purple bath water once it fizzed out.

INGREDIENTS: Like all bath bombs, this product contains a variety of safe synthetics and a hint of natural products – black pepper oil, lemon oil (very strong), ginger oil, and gardenia extract. Granny Takes A Dip is NOT vegan.

UNIQUE SHAPE: LUSH really played on this new shape. They used it in store fronts and even as a graphic in their new catalog – Fresh Matters. My friend, Allie Zoll, visited Ireland and took a picture of the store front above. I also saw a similar look in a LUSH while exploring France. Such a cool idea! The graphic from the catalog showcases how long each LUSH product lasts without using the usual and expected bar graph or pie chart.

What do you think of Granny Takes A Dip? Do you think it is worth all of the hype? Will the new LUSH products be able to make it on a “Best Sellers” list?

Name the Bath Bomb – Twilight Review

IMG_7211

I adore ‘Name the Bath Bomb’ competition from LUSH Australia on Facebook. It requires participation and brand knowledge. This allows a company to easily identify their ‘brand ambassadors.’ Can y’all guess the four bath bombs in the image above? I recognize two right away! Having a ‘Name the Bath Bomb’ blog post would be awesome!

IMG_5818IMG_5819

Twilight Bath Bomb:

  • Lavender is the primary ingredient in Twilight. The properties of this flower are quite soothing and relaxing. I enjoy the calm smell and peace it brings to my mind. Twilight is a bath bomb to use before bed time.
  • Stars, planet, and moons surround the outer soft pink shell of Twilight. Blue illuminates inside the bath bomb while fizzing out in the tub.
  • There are not many fresh, natural ingredients in this product. Unfortunately, LUSH bath bombs need to have safe synthetics in order to create the ‘bomb explosion.’

First Canadian LUSH Experience

Canada immediately comes to mind when I think of LUSH Cosmetics North America. A bulk of the products are made in Vancouver along with most of the corporate offices. Being the LUSHie that I am… I have been dreaming of visiting my first Canadian LUSH. LUSH Cosmetics in the Toronto Eaton Centre made my dream a reality!

The Eaton Centre LUSH staff are PHENOMENAL! They are friendly, lovely, funny, happy, and more. They truly embody the overall essence of LUSH Cosmetics. The manager, Jamie, especially stood out. She has beautiful turquoise hair paired with lovely, LUSH-ious skin. She knew everything about everything LUSH.

Jamie offered to pamper me with a facial trying out the three products I picked (facial products in haul)! It was an awesome experience… that I surprisingly never got asked to do in a LUSH USA store. LUSH Canada was beyond my expectations, it was a perfect LUSH!

LUSH Cosmetics Eaton Centre Haul:

If you cannot tell, I am changing up my facial routine for the summer! I will let y’all know how it goes. But for now, get over to the Toronto Eaton Centre and visit one of the best LUSH Cosmetic stores!

The ALL Purpose Ultrabalm

Lately I have been reaching for an old LUSH favorite of mine, Ultrabalm. This oily mixture hydrates and soothes any dry patch! Perfect for anyone who loves smooth skin.

IMG_3821IMG_3822

ALL PURPOSE: Ultrabalm can literally be used anywhere. I use it on my lips before I apply an Emotional Brilliance lip color. I lather it onto dry patches. I use it behind my ears. LUSH also suggests using it on your heels and hair!

SMELL: If you love natural aromas, this is for you! Ultrabalm is basically fragrance free. It does not have any added perfume or ingredient to alter its color or smell.

TEXTURE: Oily, oily, and more oily! That is the only downfall about Ultrabalm. I assume the oiler = the better the soothe. I wish it was a bit more textured like a lotion but, it is a BALM!

ALL NATURAL: Rose wax, candelilla wax, and organic jojoba oil are the three natural ingredients in Ultrabalm. Yes folks, that is just THREE ingredients. Simplicity at its finest. This product is also Vegan.

My cousin visited the LUSH Spa in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I am dying to hit up this Spa location. The only problem… what LUSH-urious treatment to get?!

Retro Blindness – LUSH Hair Products

Do you know what the LUSH Retro Collection is? It is a range of retired products that debut for a short period of time online. They range from shower smoothies to soap. You cannot smell them before hand. You cannot feel them before hand. You order the product based on reviews, ingredients, and the obvious. You go in blind.

Ibiza Party Shampoo & Superbalm Scalp Treatment:

Ibiza is a scalp soothing shampoo for all hair types. I normally go for hair care that helps my scalp since it is quite dry. This shampoo is also gentle, moisturizing, and aids with color protection (especially for blondes). I liked Ibiza, except my thick hair hated it. I got more tangles than normal. I heard that Superbalm partners well with Ibiza because they soothe and tame the scalp. Superbalm is infused with rose wax, lavender oil, chamomile blue oil, and rose absolute. Wax and oil are the primary components, which makes a slimy, gooey, oily mixture that takes a miracle to wash out. I am NOT a Superbalm fan. In fact, I do not think I will ever be.

Okra Conditioner:

IMG_5675IMG_5676

Okra reminds me of gumbo (cajun soup) and fried okra (heaven on earth). I enjoy the smell and the unique texture of this strange vegetable. Okra revives damaged hair by softening strands, creating shine, and toning the scalp. It is best for hair that is REALLY damaged either by color treatments or heat (mine gets a bit fried from coloring). Now to the review – Okra smells terrible. The smell is incredibly strong with a major hint of vinegar. It burns. Conditioning is the last task this product does. It leaves hair dry and tangly. I would only recommend this product for people who need a major boost!

P.S. – Who do you think will win tonight’s #WorldCup matches? Greece and Columbia are my bets! Eos sure has some favorites!

France Haul – Sephora & Pharmacie

IMG_7216

I normally do not post non-LUSH hauls. But this one is appropriate since most of these products are from France and awesome!

  • Formula X in Glitter Rocket – Surprisingly, the Sephora’s in France do not have the full Formula X range. They just have a few selected style and colors. This champagne, light purple color caught my eye.
  • Sephora Eyeshadow in Flirting Game #46 – I was on the look out for a darker, smokier color. Extravagant eyes are not my forte. I enjoy a natural eye look with a bit of shimmer and full lashes.
  • Nail Buffer Block – I have always wanted to purchase a nail buffer block from Sephora. I decided while in France, finally purchase the darn block! I love it! My nails never felt so smooth and healthy.
  • Essie in Lilacism – My friend is obsessed with this Essie color… and I always complement her on it! It was time for me to purchase my own. I love the light purple. In fact, this was the color I wore the entire time in France!
  • Bioderma – While strolling through the Pharmacie in Paris, I spotted the Bioderma section and immediately knew I had to try it! Beauty bloggers have been raving about this product for months and years now.
  • Nail Varnish Remover Pads – The entire packaging is in French. I love how these pads are not alcohol based but rather oil based. It feels moisturizing, healthy, clean, and not chemically.

F.Y.I – have you checked out the LUSH sun protection range from the LUSH Kitchen?! I am dying to get my hands on some for the summer sun! They have quite a few products:

“Our Values are in Our Products” – LUSH Campaign

This month LUSH is celebrating their company values with a beautiful digital campaign. You have probably seen it if you were on the LUSH USA website recently:

Screen Shot 2014-06-05 at 9.36.15 PMScreen Shot 2014-06-05 at 9.36.22 PMScreen Shot 2014-06-09 at 9.22.26 PM

I adore the image that highlights products and values. This is a very creative campaign that really strikes the core concepts and objectives of LUSH. I will be taking my favorite products, writing a mini review, and talking about how they fit into a certain value based off of this image:

NAKED!: Ultimate Shine Solid Shampoo is the perfect NAKED product example since it does not have any packaging or waste attached to it. Once it is used up, it is GONE! No debris. I really enjoy Ultimate Shine because of its simple but elegant aroma. This bar is packed with ylang ylang oil, violet leaf absolute, and gardenia extract. Plus, it has a little shimmer!

IMG_3762

100% VEGETARIAN: Honey I Washed The Kids Soap is a LUSH trademark. It smells wonderful, lathers incredibly, and hydrates. The main ingredients are beeswax, sweet wild orange oil, aloe vera extract, and bergamot oil. All LUSH products are 100% vegetarian because they avoid anything that relies on animal manufacturing. LUSH is especially proud of the glycerin in their soaps since it is from American soy beans and NOT animal fat.

IMG_4640

FRESHEST COSMETICS: As you can tell by now, LUSH cares about using ethical and environmentally friendly ingredients. But they also care about fresh cosmetics. Most LUSH products have an expiration date because they are free of preservatives and other chemicals that help store products. The freshest LUSH products are the famous face masks. Love Lettuce is one I used recently that contains honey, almond oil, ground almond shells, ground almonds, and lavender oil (no lettuce surprisingly). Face masks are so fresh they need to be stored in a refrigerator!

IMG_6524IMG_6526

FIGHTING ANIMAL TESTING: LUSH has many campaigns, awards, and activities for fighting against animal testing. Obviously, LUSH products are not animal tested nor do they use ingredients that harm animals. They use cell testing and 3D human skin models to determine if a product is safe. The Emotional Brilliance makeup line LUSH developed includes eye liner, lipsticks, mascara, eyeshadows, and skin tints that are 100% LUSH acceptable. Wise is a deep olive eyeliner from this collection.

IMG_5303IMG_5304

HANDMADE: All LUSH products are handmade with love by real people. They even put stickers on the back of products saying who it was made by and when. Each bath bomb, melt, and bubble bar are unique. Bathos is a bubble bar I used from the Retro Collection that contains violet leaf absolute, rose absolute, jasmine absolute, and ylang ylang oil. It makes a perfect bubble bath!

IMG_5890IMG_5891

ETHICAL BUYING: LUSH makes sure their suppliers have similar values such as no animal testing, protecting the environment, and creating a positive impact. They buy ingredients from small scale producers rather than mass producers. The Ro’s Argon Body Conditioner is the example LUSH used and the example I will use. This is a lovely product that smells of luxurious roses and conditions your body. The rose oil is from Turkey and the capuacu butter is from Brazil.

LUSH Q&A

What does a LUSH Q&A from andrea elizabeth consist of? I will be adding on to social media posts that I have discovered from various LUSH Facebook pages by answering the questions or revealing my opinion. This will be a cool and interactive post! I would love to see more answers and thoughts in the comments. Do not be shy LUSHies!

“What three LUSH products would you take with you to a desert island?” – LUSH Australia

IMG_6754

This is a tough question. A LUSH sales associate in Boston, MA actually asked me this before. I said Vanishing Cream, Daddy-O, and Sultana of Soap. My top three have changed a bit since then:

  1. Gorgeous – my face will need a good pick me up on a desert island! Gorgeous will do the trick. Plus, it smells absolutely amazing.
  2. Honey Trap – I am assuming this desert island will be quite sunny and windy, making my lips unbearably chapped. Honey Trap is a phenomenal lip balm that moisturizers and hydrates chapped or irritated lips.
  3. Godiva – This is one of my all time favorite LUSH products. I cannot get enough of the beautiful, delicate jasmine aroma. Godiva would be an excellent shampoo for a desert island because it lasts a while and is compact. Additionally, the shea butter in the bar acts as a conditioner. It is a 2 in 1 shampoo bar!

“What is your favorite LUSH bath cocktail” – LUSH Willowbrook Mall

IMG_6690IMG_7040

I get asked this question A LOT. Surprisingly, I am not into the bath cocktail fad. I have tried a few such as the mermaid bath (Big Blue and Sunny Side) and the creamsicle  (Enchanter and Butterball). I want to enjoy each bath product individually and experience the magic of a LUSH bath.

LUSH Willowbrook is such a fun, quirky, friendly LUSH store in Houston, TX. The manager is a sweetheart and is always looking for different ways to showcase LUSH products. The two cocktails they feature in these posts are the mermaid with Wonder Woohoo and Big Blue. The second is a new bath cocktail creation called Maleficent with Big Blue, Fizzbanger, and Sunny Side. I adore the color of this bath because of the iridescent green loaded with glitter. This cocktail is also very timely and appropriate because the Maleficent movie just came out in theaters.

Employee Bios – LUSH Australia and LUSH Washington Square

HUGE LUSH Haul – Summer 2014

As I promised at the end of my last post, I will show y’all what I got from the LUSH store in La Havre. I spotted all of the new products within seconds and decided to purchase the entire new LUSH Summer 2014 range. It has already debuted in parts of Europe and is on its way to North America! Most of the products had a pre-release in the LUSH Kitchen, so they might sound a bit familiar.

IMG_7219

  • LUSH Fizz Tank Bath Bomb Storage – I have been wanting this for a WHILE! I was so excited the store I went to had some of these. Surprisingly, they are not available in North America.
  • D’Fluff Strawberry Shaving Soap – I am very excited to use this product because I have never used a “shaving soap” from LUSH. I have tried the Ambrosia shaving cream and loved it! Plus, who cannot pass up a lovely strawberry cream?
  • Zest Styling Gelly – This gel has a very strong citrus scent and is a yellow-marigold color. Like D’Fluff, I have never used a “styling belly” from LUSH. This will also be a new experience!
  • African Paradise Body Conditioner – The aroma of this conditioner is phenomenal because it is simple soothing, and relaxing. I look forward to trying out this unique product in a steamy shower!
  • Granny Takes a Dip Bath Bomb – I was very happy to see this bath bomb in the store! I have wanted to try this ever since I spotted it in the LUSH Kitchen. The aroma is even better than I thought. Granny Takes a Dip smells exactly like SweetTarts candy!
  • Ice Blue Soap – This has been a clean, fresh soap I have been dying to try!
  • Parsley Porridge Soap – When I saw this in the LUSH Kitchen, I was very curious on how this product would smell and the texture of it. I am accusing it is similar to the Porridge Soap (texture wise). The aroma is very fresh and organic.
  • Mangnificent Soap – This is a very fruity, sweet soap. It reminds me of other LUSH smells that contain citrus ingredients.
  • BIG Solid Conditioner – This was a repurchase. I feel in love with this product about a year ago and have been waiting for the day to use it again!
  • Whoosh Shower Jelly – This was actually a sample the generous sales lady gave me. I have never tried Whoosh and am excited to finally review it!
  • Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner – This was also another sample the sales lady surprised me with. I have had a few black pots of this body conditioner!
  • Trichomania Solid Shampoo – I have never tried this product and I have no idea why. The smell is phenomenal!
  • None of Your Beeswax Lip Balm – This is the only lip balm from LUSH I have not tried yet. I also wanted to pick this product up in France to try out the twist style tins! North America has a different product design.
  • New Charity Pot Hand & Body Lotion – I am very excited to try the new formula for Charity Pot. This formula contains less safe synthetics and more natural ingredients! There will be a new post about some of the reinvented LUSH favorites.

Wow… that is a lot of cool LUSH products! This was actually two hauls combined. One from LUSH Lexington Ave. in NYC and the other from La Havre in France. If you look closely, you can tell which are the French products by the labels.

After splurging in the French store, I discovered that the new LUSH product I got are in face the LUSH Summer 2014 collection! A Facebook post from LUSH Willowbrook Mall informed me!

IMG_7130

The new LUSH Summer 2014 Collection consists of:

  • Granny Takes a Dip Bath Bomb
  • Parsley Porridge Soap
  • Mangnificent Soap
  • New Charity Pot Lotion
  • African Paradise Body Conditioner
  • D’Fluff Strawberry Shaving Soap
  • Zest Styling Gelly

What product are you most excited for?!

My First LUSH Experience Outside the U.S.

Blog posts have been lagging lately because of my busy first month of summer. I just traveled to FRANCE! This was my first time across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe and it was better than I could ever imagine.

PARIS: My mother and I spent the first four days of our trip exploring Paris. It was the first time for both of us. We rented a tiny condo in the middle of the East Bank and walked everywhere. If you have been to this city, you could probably guess what sites we visited…

The Eiffel Tower:

IMG_6828IMG_6886

Versailles:

IMG_6990IMG_6968

Sacre Coeur & other Basilicas:

IMG_6852IMG_6838

We also visited the Arc de Triomphe, the Seine River Love Locket Bridge, Notre Dame, the Louvre, the d’Orsay, Monet’s gardens, and much more! There is a ton of history in Paris! We also ate a lot of Parisian food that was surprisingly very delicious. My favorite was the Nutella Crepes with strawberries on top!

Unfortunately, I did not get the chance to visit a LUSH Cosmetics store in Paris. We tried… but were completely lost on the cobble stone streets without cell service or a map! I did make it to a French LUSH in the town of La Havre while I was visiting Honfleur in the Normandie coast.

IMG_7113IMG_7114IMG_7115IMG_7119

I know enough French to order food at a cafe, but I cannot talk fluently at ALL! It was difficult communicating to the LUSH sales associates because they did not understand any English. Furthermore, all of the labels of the products were in French! I tried to guess the products based on the names but gave up. Then, I named a majority of the products based on smell or apperance.

BUT… there was at least 3 products I could not identify. I assumed these were new or exclusive to Europe. The sales associate then attempted to say “new” in English! I grabbed these products faster than you can say new!

Stay tuned to see what “new” products I purchased in my FRANCE HAUL. Comment below guessing what they could be. I will give y’all a hint: Summer 2014!
