BYOB – Build Your Own Birchbox

I am the Birchbox subscriber that cannot get enough!! Even with boxes on the way, I always take the time to BYOB (Build Your Own Birchbox) when passing the Soho oasis. The BYOB station has changed dramatically, since you can grab your own samples without someone assisting you, plus a mens BYOB. I went all out – even surprised my boyfriend with his own box filled with shaving goodies and whiskey stones. For my box, I picked samples I have been waiting to try! Luckily, the company now lets you substitute certain categories for others (hint – skip the fragrance and go for the skin or hair care).

My personalized Birchbox wasn’t my only purchase that day… I decided to try a Korean product called Peripera Ah Much Real My Cushion Blusher in Happy Coral (for more Korean beauty, check out my Face Shop post). The sponge applicator is perfect for an on-the-go look to create glowing cheeks with a peachy finish.

Have you ever done the BYOB? What do you think of monthly subscriptions?

LUSH Review – R&B

Another LUSH review for the books. This post I will be reviewing the LUSH’s “hair finisher,” R&B. This was one of my first products I tried from LUSH’s hair line. I was looking for a leave in conditioner which would seriously hydrate and rejuvenate my hair. I thought R&B was it.

Here are some images of the product pot:

As you can tell, R&B is a hair moisturizer to revive and balance to develop “sexy tresses.” The picture to the left describes all of R&B ingredients. The featured ingredient in this product is cupuacu butter. The cupuacu tree is a tropical tree native to many different parts of the Amazon rainforest. This tree is very similar to the coca tree, which coco butter is made from.

Positive product aspects:

  • The smell is phenomenal (it reminds me of a tropical paradise).
  • Easy to use, easy to put in hair, easy to brush out.

Negative product aspects:

  • Can leave hair really oily the next day.
  • Thick residue left over in hair.

Overall, I like this LUSH product but I do not think it is a must need for me. I have barely used this whole pot and have had it for a while now. But, I do not think I enjoy it that much because my hair is oily and hydrated to begin with. I think that this product is made for people with dry, curly hair. I am curious to know if anyone else has used this product and your comments/feelings about it!

As always, thank you Kokeb for making this product!! (you can tell that I have had this pot for a while because the compounder sticker is old school)!

Sorry that I did not post a daily review yesterday, I am in Vermont skiing for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend! Gobble gobble everyone!

LUSH Hair Doctor Review

My hair has been having a few problems adjusting to the dryness of winter. First, my hair gets extremely dry in the first place. Second, my scalp has always caused problems. So… I decided it was time to give the LUSH hair mask, Hair Doctor a try.

IMG_3746

According to LUSH, Hair Doctor is a ” deep cleansing minty hair and scalp treatment.” (I can vouch, it was extremely minty and makes your scalp very tingly) I think that the results were pretty great. My hair felt clean, hydrated and renewed. My scalp felt very refreshed and healthy.

But there were a few problems that REALLY annoyed me:

  1. It was very difficult to get the product out of my hair in the shower (took me about 3 washes)
  2. The tingly-ness became way to much at one point (it started to make my eyes water)
  3. The smell was a little to unique and exotic for my taste.

Although there were many negative aspects about this mask, I thought that the results were phenomenal. My hair was seriously detoxed and refreshed. I felt like I had completely new hair. So, if you are looking for a major refreshment mask, this is the product for you!

Oh and I forgot to mention, Hair Doctor is made super fresh and should be treated just like a LUSH fresh face mask. Put it in the fridge after every use and really watch the expiration dates!

If you have any further questions about LUSH feel free to comment! Also, what hair masks have you used that work pretty well?
